Norwood on the brink of confirming Ipswich Town move

James Norwood is on the brink of completing his move to fellow League One outfit Ipswich Town.

UPDATE: 30 mins after publishing this, the move was indeed confirmed.

The fact Norwood will be joining the Tractor Boys has arguably been one of the worst-kept transfer secrets of recent time. Indeed, a source confirmed to us as early as the first week in April that this deal would likely happen and reports have been around longer still.

While the move may have been on the cards for some time, the dreams of the most optimistic Rovers fans look like finally being dashed this week. Norwood’s Range Rover was photographed at Portman Road today and an announcement will surely happen within the next 24 hours, you’d have thought.

We will write a full send-off to Nors in due course once things are confirmed, but the majority of supporters will wish him well. It’s a three-year contract at Ipswich that he has agreed to, despite interest from elsewhere.

It won’t surprise you to hear that among all of the clubs who lodged interest with League Two’s leading marksman, we’re told that Salford were ready to match financial terms offered elsewhere. Thankfully, they look like being unsuccessful.

As for Tranmere, well, it’s been a quiet couple of weeks since the season ended. It’s still just over two weeks since that magnificent second consecutive promotion was confirmed at Wembley, so it’s probably not much of a surprise that things are slow.

Many players remain on holiday at the time of writing, but contract offers have been made to several, including loanee Sid Nelson, we believe. Once Norwood’s departure is confirmed, you would imagine Rovers will begin to announce some positive news.

With all of that in mind, we’d expect the confirmation of Norwood’s Ipswich Town transfer to kick-start a flurry of new signings and contract news.
