Tranmere have been given a massive incentive to beat Southport in the FA Cup replay next week with a Third Round tie at home to Spurs awaiting the winner.
Rovers laboured to a 1-1 draw at home to Sandgrounders on Saturday and were fortunate to get away with a replay. The two teams will meet at Southport next Tuesday to decide who goes through to the third round.
And what a third round it would be for either side.
From a Tranmere perspective, there is no hiding away from the fact that the squad needs strengthening, and a money-spinning game against Tottenham would do no harm at all. It would almost certainly be a sell-out crowd and one of the most eye-catching ties of the Third Round.
Last season, Newport County drew at home to a strong Spurs team in the FA Cup to force a lucrative replay at Wembley, Harry Kane saving Tottenham’s blushes.
Whoever earns the right to host Mauricio Pochettino’s team, it will be a great tie and one which may end up being selected for live television coverage.
Fingers crossed that the lads can get the job done.
