Saturday’s abandoned game at Solihull will be replayed at the Midlands club tomorrow (Monday) when hopefully the floodlights will be up to the job.
Tranmere led in Saturday’s FA Trophy game thanks to a Ollie Noburn free-kick midway through the first half. However, within ten minutes of Rovers going in front, natural light faded and the stadium floodlights were not in working order.
Unfortunately, the game had not reached anywhere near the threshold required for Rovers to be credited with the result, so instead the game will be played out again in its entirety. The 1-0 lead Tranmere had will count for nothing, with 90 minutes to play starting from 0-0 tonight.
As expected, Micky Mellon had named a full-strength team for the tie on Saturday, with Luke Pilling the only real surprise in the starting eleven as the young keeper came in for a much-deserved first team start.
Elsewhere, it was the usual suspects starting – a group of players that have really come together in recent weeks and found some strong form, firing Rovers back up the table and toward the play-off positions.
Mellon will likely go with the same team again for the re-arranged game, although with the travelling back and forth and the false start on Saturday, there may be a temptation to change things up a little bit given the important league game that lies ahead.
Tranmere travel down to Surrey on Saturday for a tough yet tantalising encounter with one of the division’s pace-setters, Sutton United. Victory could put Tranmere within touching distance of the play-off spots going in to back-to-back home games during the Christmas period.
For fans who went to the game on Saturday, arrangements have been made for ticket refunds, if required. If you went on Saturday but are unable to go to the re-arranged tie, then refunds can be obtained by presenting your ticket stub at Tranmere Rovers’ ticket office.
For those with tickets from Saturday who wish to go to the re-arranged fixture tonight, then free admission will be granted on production of your ticket stub.
