Experienced striker Andy Mangan returned to Tranmere for a second spell in November 2016, 11 months after leaving the club to join Shrewsbury Town. The common denominator here is Micky Mellon.

Mellon managed Mangy at Fleetwood, took him to Shrewsbury, and then quickly brought the well-travelled forward to Prenton Park following his own switch from Shrewsbury a month earlier.

He netted seven goals in 22 games during his first spell at the club but struggled for form at the back end of the 2016/17 campaign when returning for a second spell. During the following summer, he admitted his form and fitness hadn’t been where it had needed to, and returned to pre-season looking fitter and hungrier.

Once again, Mangan will have to compete with a host of forward options for a place in the Tranmere team in 2017/18. His contract will expire in June 2018.
