Tranmere face Manchester United in the FA Cup later today in a match which should give Rovers fans an opportunity to see some big-name players.
Going off media reports and United press conferences, here are some of the players who are thought likely to feature today.
Sergio Romero – The 32-year-old Argentinian goalkeeper is likely to start in goal despite being in a car accident earlier this week. The former Sampdoria stopper has a whopping 96 caps for Argentina and is an experienced pair of hands.
Aaron Wan-Bissaka – Young England full-back Wan-Bissaka may play at right back today. He joined from Crystal Palace for £50million last summer and if he does play today it’s going to be a fascinating battle of pace and power with Corey Blackett-Taylor.
Eric Bailly – Centre back Bailly has been out of action with an injury recently and United are desperate to get him back. Having cost £30million in 2016, he’s a big money player who has perhaps not quite delivered to the standards many thought he would. However, his pace and ability to dominate in the air could give Ferrier and Mullin a right battle.
Luke Shaw – Seemingly in favour one moment, and out of it the next, England full-back Shaw is likely to be given game time today to build his fitness back up. Another £30million player, Shaw will play on the left-side of United’s backline if he starts.
Victor Lindelof – Swedish international Lindelof joined United for 35 million euros in 2017 and has been developing well ever since. He’s put in some of his best performances in the last 12 months and is likely to partner Bailly at the heart of the United backline.
Jesse Lingard – England midfielder Lingard will almost certainly start today. While he gets a lot of flack for his lack of goals and assists recently, you don’t play in World Cups and remain at a club like Man Utd for so long unless you have something about you. His energy from the middle of the park will be a real threat today.
Juan Mata – Spanish international Mata has been one of the most talented players to play in the Premier League over the last decade, and the 31-year-old is as important to United today as he was on the day he arrived from Chelsea for £37million in 2014. He scored the winner in round three against Wolves and his quality could be a real threat today.
Fred – Brazilian international Fred may get to play today, but there is a chance Soksjaer will hold him back having seen him feature heavily recently. He cost the club in excess of £50million and has done very little until this season. His performances are now slowly making people sit up and take notice. Predominantly left footed, he will be a threat if he plays.
Tahith Chong – Young winger Tahith Chong seems to be heading for the United exit door, but he has featured under Solskjaer including in Champions League games. He was excellent for United U21s in the Leasing.com Trophy match at Tranmere last year and netted a brace. The exciting prospect may be in the matchday squad today.
Mason Greenwood – The latest young prospect to roll off the United production line, striker Greenwood looks a real prospect. Quick, strong and a natural finisher, he will be a huge threat.
