Predictable use of a headline, outstanding team performance. Tranmere handed NINE first team debuts to young players, and still ran out victors at Maidstone.
It was quite possibly the youngest Tranmere team ever fielded for a competitive league fixture, as Micky Mellon rests his first team players ahead of the play-offs beginning next week.
Maidstone certainly enjoyed a lions share of possession, however the youngsters did themselves and the shirt proud.
From the outstanding Luke Pilling in goal, the entire team battled hard. The game was won by young striker Sam Illesamni who forced the ball home from close range following a bit of a scramble inside the area.
The goal, and full-time whistle, was celebrated with gusto by players and fans alike and was a great way to lift spirits at Prenton Park even more ahead of the vital games against Aldershot.
For so many of these players, the summer will be a telling one as they learn whether they’ll be handed pro contracts.
Whatever their fate, they’ll have the memories and experience from today to last a lifetime.
Well done lads.
