Akammadu nets first Tranmere goal as Ridehalgh returns

Tranmere striker Franklyn Akammadu scored his first goal in English football last night as he netted in Tranmere’s Cheshire Senior Cup match against Northwich Victoria.

The young striker, who is on a season-long loan from Italian side US Alessandria, converted just three minutes in to last night’s tie Rovers progressed through with a 2-1 win. Young striker Bailey Thompson netted Rovers’ second goal of the night which proved to be the winner just a minute after Northwich had equalised.

While the Cheshire Senior Cup is not something that many fans will worry too much about, there were a couple of significant selections in the Tranmere team last night.

Full-back Liam Ridehalgh made his competitive playing return after six months out with injury. His last appearance came in the Play-Off Final at Wembley – and we all know what happened there. In picking up a red card inside the first minute, the defender also injured himself which has kept him sidelined until now.

Young defender Evan Gumbs was also back on the team sheet after another spell out with serious injury.

Defender Mark Ellis and winger Ben Tollitt also started for Rovers as Micky Mellon looks to keep the pair sharp and ready for action.
