Chester interested in forgotten man Waring

National League North side Chester are interested in signing Tranmere striker George Waring, RoversRearguard.com understands.

Waring joined Kidderminster on loan in November but has failed to hold down a regular starting place at Aggborough. The player is due to return to Rovers this month but is not thought to feature in Micky Mellon’s plans.

Chester, who were relegated from the National League last season, are still in the play-off hunt as they seek an immediate return to the fifth tier. They see Waring as an option to add to their firepower upfront as well as adding more of a physical presence.

It’s thought Rovers are open to allowing Waring to leave on a permanent basis, but it’s more likely any move would be on loan. Waring is contracted with Rovers until the end-of-the-season having failed to make any sort of impression since joining in 2017.

Tranmere are currently having a bit of a clear-out, with several players having left this month already. Ritchie Sutton, Ryan Williams, Franklyn Akammadu and Larnell Cole have all departed permanently, while Cole Stockton and Ben Tollitt have joined Wrexham on loan.

Stockton will be at the Racecourse until the end-of-the-season which takes him to the end of his Rovers contract. Tollitt this week extended his loan in North Wales by a further month.
