Transfer Deadline Day – LIVE

By

Welcome to our transfer deadline day live blog. With Tranmere Rovers looking to do some business, we thought we’d keep a close tab on things today. The January transfer window for English clubs closes at 11:00pm this evening.

So far, Morgan Feeney has joined from Everton and Paul Mullin has joined Cambridge United on loan. Rushian Hepburn-Murphy has been recalled by Aston Villa. There may be more business to be done, so keep it right here and we’ll keep you as up-to-date as we can.

If you want to get in touch with the chat, let us know who’d you’d like Rovers to sign, respond to any rumours you’ve heard, please do so on Twitter @roversrearguard.

6:05pm Well, had hoped they’d be doing business during office hours! Still hopeful of someone coming in, but will have to sign off for now. We’ll keep you updated on here or on Twitter throughout the evening if anything exciting is to happen. Thanks for checking in throughout today. Hopefully good news awaits later on today.

5:10pm Hopefully this is true and we can keep hold of Manny, at least until the end of the season.

5:01pm Unlikely we’ll go right through blogging all evening. But we’ll do our best to keep you informed as to what’s going on before the window closes at 11pm.

5:00pm Six hours to go…

4:30pm A name currently being bandied about on social media linking him with a move to Tranmere is Sunderland striker Will Grigg. It seems unlikely, particularly given the likely wage the Northern Ireland striker will be on at The Black Cats, but who knows?

4:23pm Think this may be wishful thinking, John…

4:19pm Tend with agree with Adrian’s thoughts. The six players we’ve brought in are all good players. My concerns are that Peter Clarke is currently injured, Luke McCullough is coming back from a serious long-term injury, Kane Wilson was very injury prone earlier in the season…

On top of all the other injuries we have! Time will obviously tell if it’s good enough, and we really hope it will be good enough to keep us in League One.

4:14pm Adrian believes we’ve secured some good players in the window and we’re a stronger squad. Agree? Disagree? The discussion is open via our Twitter page.

4:11pm Miles doesn’t think the squad or the transfer dealings have been good enough in January. Less than seven hours to improve things before the deadline. Get involved with the discussion on Twitter.

4:03pm What have you made of the wheeling and dealing done by the club in January? Are we a stronger squad than on January 1? Tweet us your thoughts @roversrearguard.

4:00pm The January window so far has involved…

IN: Morgan Feeney (Everton, loan), James Vaughan (Bradford City, loan), Kane Wilson (West Bromwich Albion, loan), Luke McCullough (free agent), Alex Woodyard (Peterborough United, loan), Peter Clarke (Fleetwood Town, unknown).

OUT: Paul Mullin (Cambridge United, loan), Rushian Hepburn-Murphy (Aston Villa, loan recall), Cameron Borthwick-Jackson (Manchester United, loan recall), Jordan Ponticelli (Coventry City, loan recall).

3:44pm We’ve written more details on the Paul Mullin and Rushian Hepburn-Murphy departures for the site which can be found on the link below.

Mullin joins Cambridge, RHM returns to Villa ahead of Derby or Coventry move

3:07pm There was talk of a defender potentially being allowed to leave Tranmere before the deadline. With the news that Peter Clarke may be out for a few weeks as well as injury to Liam Ridehalgh, suspect that Micky Mellon will be looking to keep hold of what he’s got unless he can bring in further cover.

2:34pm The news hasn’t gone down particularly well with the Super White Army on social media. Mullin has never really had a sustained spell in the side to prove himself but has netted 12 goals in 50-odd appearances. Including the winning goal against Watford just eight days ago to set up the tie against Manchester United.

Micky did say he needed players out before players could come in, so we’ll wait and see…

2:30pm OUTGOING news. And it’s striker Paul Mullin who is leaving Prenton Park to join League Two side Cambridge United on loan until the end of the season.

2:20pm If Rovers are to bring anyone in today, will it be any of these names who have been linked with the club?

2:11pm More from this afternoon’s pre-match press conference regarding potential transfer business (or not) to be done today…

1:57pm Aside from the transfer news for a moment, and some injury updates ahead of tomorrow’s huge game at Bolton.

Bad news is Peter Clarke is ruled out and could be missing for a number of weeks. Liam Ridehalgh, Neil Danns and Corey Blackett-Taylor all doubts for the big game, too.

Good news is that Morgan Ferrier appears fit to be involved. James Vaughan and Morgan Feeney could make their Tranmere debuts at the University of Bolton Stadium.

Ollie Banks is a week to 10 days away from a possible return to action.

1:52pm Jacob Maddox, remember him (what do you mean, no?) who was on loan at Tranmere during the first half of this season has been linked with a move to Premier League side Southampton.

1:39pm The departure of RHM frees up a loan which might be used elsewhere as there is a limit to the number of loan players you can have in your squad. Might allow the manager to bring someone in within a different area of the pitch, perhaps?

1:32pm Confirmation that Rushian Hepburn-Murphy has left Tranmere and is expected to go back out on loan to Derby County.

1:00pm Just 10 hours to go before the window slams shut. No sign of any further news coming in as yet.

12:35pm French striker Gime Toure was linked with Rovers earlier in the week. Is this a deal we are trying to get over the line today?

The 25-year-old forward is Hartlepool United’s leading goalscorer this season with 11 goals in the National League so far in 2019-20.

12:30pm Batteries recharged ready for the afternoon! We still expect a few deals involving Tranmere to be done before the 11pm deadline, so stick with us.

11:56am Going to use this time to get a bit of lunch so we’ll be back shortly!

11:50am Believe the pre-match press conferences ahead of tomorrow’s game at Bolton will be held this afternoon, so maybe there may be some more transfer news then, plus details of the walking wounded! See if the likes of Peter Clarke, Corey Blackett-Taylor and Neil Danns might be set for a return to the squad.

11:26am While there’s not too much going on it seems (we’re not behind the scenes where it could be really busy), here’s a link to some stats and information on today’s new loan signing from Premier League side Everton.

Soccerway information on Morgan Feeney

10:53am Aside from the transfer deadline day, Micky Mellon and his squad are today preparing for a MASSIVE game tomorrow away at Bolton Wanderers.

Six points from safety, you’d have to think that three points against the bottom side in the division is a must.

If you haven’t got your tickets for the game at the University of Bolton Stadium, you only have until 12pm today to do so from the TRFC ticket office at Prenton Park or online.

10:42am There have been a few rumours flying about, as there always is at this time of the year, over the past few weeks. Danny Mayor and Andy Cook are two players who are frequently linked with returns to Prenton Park (Mayor had a brief loan under Ronnie Moore). Will we see any movement with these two today?

And it looks likely that Rovers will need to get a player or two out to free up some cash, so who might be heading out the door?

10:10am While it’s gone a little bit quiet, here’s a brief look at Tranmere’s transfer window activity so far.

IN: Morgan Feeney (Everton, loan), James Vaughan (Bradford City, loan), Kane Wilson (West Bromwich Albion, loan), Luke McCullough (free agent), Alex Woodyard (Peterborough United, loan), Peter Clarke (Fleetwood Town, unknown).

OUT: Cameron Borthwick-Jackson (Manchester United, loan recall), Jordan Ponticelli (Coventry City, loan recall).

9:57am Not had any official confirmation, but believe striker Rushian Hepburn-Murphy has been recalled by Aston Villa, and reports suggest he is heading for a loan to the Championship, linking up with Wayne Rooney and co at Derby County.

9:45am So, one confirmed in today, journalist Matt Jones is expecting some outgoing activity today as well…

9:00am The first bit of business of the day was confirmation that young 20-year-old defender Morgan Feeney has joined on loan from Everton until the end of the season.

Morgan has been captain of Everton’s Under-23 side, winning the Premier League 2 title with the Blues twice and has featured in the young Blues’ EFL Trophy campaign this term.

The centre-back has made two senior appearances for The Toffees, both in the Europa League in 2017, firstly as a substitute against Atalanta before a full appearance against Apollon Limassol.
