Tranmere have seen two forwards leave the club today as Paul Mullin joins League Two Cambridge United on loan and Rushian Hepburn-Murphy sees his loan spell terminated as Villa look to move him to the Championship.
In truth, Mullin has been on the periphery of the first team since he joined Tranmere in 2018. Despite that, he’s scored some goals for us and some absolutely beauties among them, not to mention the recent winner against Watford in the FA Cup which set up the lucrative Manchester United cup tie last week.
Mullin will stay with Cambridge until the end-of-the-season and you have to fancy they he will do pretty well there.
The Hepburn-Murphy news was first mooted on social media a week or so ago, with Coventry City thought to be the likely destination at that point.
But as he returns to Aston Villa today, it looks like Derby County are the front-runners to sign him, which is a little bit surprising.
While he scored a blistering hat-trick away to MK Dons in October, he has struggled to make much an impression aside from that game. He had joined Tranmere last August on a season-long loan.
It’s been clear for some time that if Tranmere are to bolster their squad, then players have to move out. Therefore, it’s not a great surprise that these players have been moved on.
Here’s hoping for some fresh faces before the window shuts tonight!
