Tranmere’s friendly match against Liverpool on Tuesday evening will present the first chance for Rovers’ fans to see some of the new faces in action at Prenton Park.
New signings Mark Ellis, Manny Monthe, Ollie Banks, Jake Caprice and Paul Mullin should get minutes for Tranmere, while there is almost certainly going to be some trialists making up the Rovers squad.
Trialists Reece Flanagan and Amadou Soukouna may again get run-outs after they both played 45 minutes of the 4-0 win at Dunfermline on Saturday. More are expected to join the squad in the coming weeks, but no other new ones will be involved tonight.
Former Walsall midfielder Flanagan and French forward Soukouna both spent last week in Scotland training with Micky Mellon’s squad prior to being involved against Dunfermline.
Similarly, Jurgen Klopp will bring a strong team across the Mersey for the game.
There will be a host of youngsters and fringe players mixed up with senior first team players. England midfielder Adam Lallana, who narrowly missed out on a place in the World Cup squad, missed Saturday’s game at Chester but will play tonight at Prenton Park.
Expect new signings Fabinho and Naby Keita to get 45 minutes each, while Andrew Robertson, James Milner, Daniel Sturridge, Joel Matip, Joe Gomez, Nathaniel Clyne and Ragnar Klavan should also feature. Danny Ings is a doubt.
Dutch internationals Virgil Van Dijk and Georginio Wijnaldum will not feature. They only returned to pre-season training this week having been given additional time off due to early summer friendly matches played with Holland.
The Reds will probably use two goalkeepers for the game with Danny Ward and Loris Karius both available. Academy goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher is also in the Reds’ squad.
Players involved in the World Cup will not be present, ruling the likes of Roberto Firmino, Mo Salah, Sadio Mane, Jordan Henderson and Trent Alexander-Arnold out.
