Liverpool friendly confirmed

Tranmere will once again welcome Merseyside neighbours Liverpool to Prenton Park for a pre-season friendly.

Rovers will entertain the Reds on Wednesday 11th July as the pre-season fixture list really begins to fill-out and the preparation for 2018/19 campaign ramps up.

Jurgen Klopp will once again bring a squad across the Mersey that will have a mix of first team and young players. It’s likely that the UEFA Champions League runners-up will include a host of players from the Liverpool Under-23 squad that plays its home games at Prenton Park.

The likes of Mo Salah, Sadio Mane, Dejan Lovren and Roberto Firmino won’t feature as they’re in World Cup squads, and even if they’re eliminated by then, they will not be back training. However, players such as Virgil Van Dijk, Andrew Robertson, Georginio Wijnaldum and James Milner could well feature.

Liverpool will play friendly matches against Chester, Bury, Blackburn and Tranmere before flying out for a three-game tour of the US where they will play Borussia Dortmund, Man City and Man Utd in three different states.

The news of Liverpool’s visit comes on the back of yesterday’s announcement that Tranmere will travel to Scotland to play Dunfermline on Saturday 7th July. The East End Park club fiished fourth in the Scottish Championship last season before being beaten by Dundee United in the play-offs.

Tranmere have today announced they will be running official coach travel to that fixture.

Rovers will also face Wigan Athletic, Fleetwood Town and Rochdale at Prenton Park this summer among a packed pre-season schedule. There are also additional away games at Chorley and Warrington Town.

It’s a welcome welcome change from 12 months ago when Tranmere’s plans for the new campaign were left in disarray following a host of cancelled friendly matches.
