Norwood Named League Two Player Of The Season

At the annual EFL Awards ceremony in London last night, Tranmere Rovers striker James Norwood was named as the Sky Bet League Two Player of the Season.

Norwood was shortlisted for the award alongside Bury FC duo Jay O’Shea and Danny Mayor as we reported last month here.

He was also named in the EFL Team of the Season, selected from players participating in all three divisions of the EFL.

With 29 goals to his name so far this season, it is perhaps unsurprising that he is picking up such accolades. But was keen to express thanks to his team mates when collecting the individual award.

He told the EFL: “It’s a great accolade. I know the players I was up against in Jay O’Shea and Danny Mayor who have scored goals from midfield and influenced the game.

“But it’s a credit to our team. From 1-11, they work hard to create chances for me and I’m on the end of those chances to put the ball in the net.”

With five games still to go in the League Two season, Norwood will undoubtedly be working hard to achieve the ultimate prize, a second promotion in two seasons with Rovers.
