Last night saw the 12th annual Northwest Football Awards take place at The Point at Lancashire County Cricket Club.
Rovers Rearguard were there after being nominated and shortlisted in the Best Fans Media category alongside Full Time Devils (Manchester United), Superbia Proelia (Manchester City), The Pie at Night (Wigan Athletic) and Redmen TV (Liverpool).
Tranmere were represented in the awards, too. Tranmere Rovers in the Community were shortlisted in the Community Club of the Year category, goalkeeper Scott Davies was up for League Two Player of the Year while Micky Mellon was among the shortlist for Manager of the Year.
Hosted by Football Focus and BBC Breakfast presenter Dan Walker, the night went really well, although the constant reminders that he had to be up early wore a little thin by the end.
The Community Club category was one of the first, with Rovers being pipped to the award by the Bolton Wanderers Community Trust.
Then it came to the Best Fans Media category and… we didn’t win sadly!
Congratulations to the Redmen TV who collected the award for the third year in a row.
As the tweet says, we were honoured to be nominated and didn’t really expect to win given the strength of the opposition.
We don’t have the budget of some of the others in the category, because we don’t have a budget at all! All our content is produced by volunteers because we love doing so and we love our club. We’ll continue to do so and hopefully keep improving the site as we go along.
A big thank you to the judging panel of the Northwest Football Awards for putting us forward, and to everyone who voted for us. The support we received throughout this process has been fantastic, so a huge thanks for that.
In more glorious news, Scott Davies lifted the League Two Player of the Year award, meaning Tranmere at least had some silverware to bring back to Wirral from the event!
So, all in all, it was a fantastic evening to be involved in, celebrating the great achievements of clubs, players and staff around the region which is a hotbed for fantastic football.
We’ll keep working hard to see if we get nominated for more awards in the future, writing about our fantastic football club and representing the Super White Army!
Thanks once again and keep supporting the site!
