Tranmere Rovers’ training ground at the Solar Campus is set to see a 3G artificial pitch installed.
Plans for this facility have been in place since the new training ground opened around three years ago and finally appear set to go ahead, with hopes for it to be installed for the start of the new season in August.
The new 3G surface will be available for the Tranmere Rovers squads to use as well as Liverpool Ladies who are also based at the Leasowe location.
Speaking in an article in the Liverpool Echo, Tranmere chairman Mark Palios said: “It’s a win, win. We have been planning this for some time, it’s just a case of getting the planning sorted in conjuction with Wirral Council.
“In very wet periods, we can take teams off the grass and stick them on 3G pitches. If a team wants to prepare for a game on 3G, they can use this pitch.”
In addition to this, it is believed that the new facility will be available for community use during evenings and weekends, creating a further important income stream for the club.
