Aldershot or Ebbsfleet? Rovers to find out tonight

By

Tranmere find out who they will meet in Saturday’s play-off semi-final tonight as Aldershot and Ebbsfleet lock horns at The Electrical Services Stadium.

Aldershot will go in to tonight’s game as favourites to progress having finished above Fleet in the league. Shots have also won at Ebbsfleet this season while the game between the two sides in Aldershot finished level.

Ebbsfleet, managed by former West Ham coach Daryl McMahon, have had a fantastic first season at this level. They won promotion 12 months ago through the play-offs, and with much of that team still in-tact, they know what it takes to win these pressure-cooker games.

They opened this season with a staggering 10 draws in 11 games, but really hit form after Christmas to get themselves in to the promotion race and secure a play-off spot.

Aldershot had a fine start to the season and looked like they could be title contenders. They fell away slightly at the turn of the year, but defeat at Sutton on the last day of the season is all that prevented them a third-placed finish.

They’ll be keen to get through tonight and exercise the ghost of last season when the Shots were beaten 5-2 over to legs by Tranmere.

Ebbsfleet will have little pressure on them tonight, their boss Daryl McMahon already stating they have done brilliantly well in their first campaign in the National League.

Speaking this week, he said: “No matter what happens now in the play-offs, for our first season to get where we are is a fantastic achievement.

“But when you’re in it, you might as well try to win it and that’s what we’ll be trying to do.
