Tranmere Rovers will make some changes to the team for their Checkatrade Trophy tie against Shrewsbury Town at the Montgomery Waters Meadow on Tuesday evening (7:00pm kick-off).
After a busy schedule of late, manager Micky Mellon (returning to his former club) has admitted that a number of players will be rested and some of the fringe players will feature against League One opposition.
After losing to Crewe Alexandra in the opening group game of the competition, Rovers will need to win to stand any chance of progress to the next round, with a home match against Manchester City Under-21 awaiting further down the line.
The likes of Jake Caprice, Larnell Cole, Franklyn Akammadu and Mark Ellis could be brought into the side after sitting on the substitutes’ bench in recent weeks, giving the side a freshness but also providing key match minutes for those players who haven’t featured in the last few games.
It could also be an opportunity for midfielder Ryan Williams to be handed his Rovers debut. The former Morecambe man signed a short-term contract but has yet to feature in the first team, so this could be the ideal chance for his first appearance in a white shirt.
Striker James Norwood is available again following suspension for a red card picked up against Lincoln City last week. But will the eight-goal striker be thrown straight back into the side? Or will he be kept for the league game against Macclesfield Town when Friday Night Football returns to Prenton Park later this week?
Admission has been reduced by the home club, with tickets at just £5 for adults and £1 for concessions.
Please note that kick-off is earlier than normal at 7:00pm.
