While it’s all gone a bit quiet on the transfer from a Tranmere perspective, things are still moving elsewhere across League Two with Port Vale, Colchester and Grimsby all busy.
We start with managerial news as former Exeter City manager Paul Tisdale is appointed as the new boss of MK Dons. Tisdale left Exeter following play-off defeat against Coventry. He was offered a new contract, but having been put ‘on notice’ more than 18 months ago, he chose to take a new challenge at MK.
Carlisle United have appointed former Oldham, Plymouth and Chesterfield boss John Sheridan as their new manager. Sheridan has already said he thinks Carlisle should be getting out of the division with the play-offs the minimum requirement.
Macclesfield lost their manager John Askey after he led them to the National League title, he opted to move to League One Shrewsbury. There are a host of names in the frame to replace him, with current Gateshead manager Steve Watson the favourite – he has been on the Macc coaching staff previously. Paul Dickov, Keith Curle and Chorley boss Matt Jansen are also linked.
Moving to transfers then, and Colchester have brought in Harry Pell on a free transfer from Cheltenham Town. It’s been a good week for Colchester boss John McGreal after he also convinced skipper Luke Prosser to sign a new two-year contract.
Talking of new deals, veteran forward Barry Corr has extended his stay at Cambridge by penning a new six-month contract while left-back Matt Taylor will stay at Swindon after agreeing a one-year player-coach deal. Notts County have tied down left-back Dan Jones on a new two-year contract as well.
The latest transfer to go through in League Two is Grimsby Town’s capture of St Mirren defender Harry Davis. The 26-year-old helped the Scottish side win the Scottish Championship and secure SPL football next season, but it’s in League Two where he will operate next season having signed a one-year deal.
Crawley have signed AFC Wimbledon midfielder George Francomb on a free transfer, the former Tottenham trainee signing a two-year contract with the club.
Macclesfield Town have brought in highly-rated Bath City defender Miles Welch-Hayes on a free despite being without a manager. The player started his career at Oxford United and has signed for two years at Moss Rose.
Former WBA youngster Tahvon Campbell has secured a permanent move away from the Hawthorns after joining Forest Green. He has had a host of loan spells with the likes of Notts County and Yeovil in recent years.
One of the most sought-after players this summer has been experienced Scunthorpe midfielder Neal Bishop. Mansfield Town have won the race for his signature, Hartlepool United were also confirmed suitors for the former Notts County man.
That’s all for now, we will give you another update next week.
