Liverpool friendly moved for World Cup

Tranmere’s home game against Liverpool next week will now be played on Tuesday evening rather than Wednesday.

The two sides were scheduled to meet on Wednesday, but with England’s progress in the World Cup gripping the nation and a potential semi-final in the offing for the Wednesday night, both clubs have come together to move the game now.

Of course, it’s perfectly possible England will lose against Sweden in the quarters on Saturday, but by moving the game now it allows both clubs – and their fans – time to make arrangements for the new date.

Liverpool are expected to name a strong side for the game at Prenton Park, with new signings Naby Keita and Fabinho likely to take centre stage.

Rovers will likely include a few trialists in their matchday squad, while Ollie Banks, Jake Caprice, Mark Ellis, Manny Monthe and Paul Mullin will make their first appearances as permanent Tranmere players.

Micky Mellon’s squad is currently at a training camp in Scotland to prepare for the season ahead of taking on Dunfermline in Saturday’s pre-season opener.
