On-loan midfielder Jacob Maddox has been released by Tranmere Rovers to return to his parent club, Premier League outfit Chelsea.
The young midfielder arrived at Prenton Park at the beginning of the season with high expectations, but he has featured only twice in a Rovers shirt, both in the EFL Trophy.
Injury problems at the beginning of the campaign prevented him from hitting the ground running, and he has since failed to break into the side on a regular basis.
He was an unused substitute six times in League One with other players getting ahead of him in the pecking order within the Rovers midfield.
With that in mind, and ahead of the January transfer window, boss Micky Mellon has allowed the 21-year-old to return to Stamford Bridge where he will likely join up with the Blues’ Under-21 development squad.
