With the memory of the final game of the 2018-19 season still very fresh in our memories from last weekend, Rovers have announced some of their plans for the preparations to the 2019-20 season, where Tranmere will be a League One team.
Two pre-season friendlies have been announced against Midlands teams which will be played at Prenton Park in July.
On July 20, Sky Bet Championship side Stoke City will visit Wirral. Nathan Jones’ side will provide stiff opposition, with star names such as Jack Butland, Thomas Ince and Benik Afobe.
They finished their first season back down in the Championship, after relegation from the Premier League the season previous, in 16th place.
A week later, on July 27, Walsall will visit Prenton Park, meaning a possible return to Tranmere for former striker Andy Cook.
The Saddlers suffered relegation at the end of last season so will ply their trade in Sky Bet League Two in 2019-20.
The two teams met at Prenton Park at the beginning of the 2018-19 campaign in the Carabao Cup, the game ending in a 3-1 victory for Walsall with Larnell Cole getting Tranmere’s solitary goal.
Rovers have also announced a trip to League Two side Carlisle United on Tuesday 23 July. Brunton Park was the scene of Tranmere’s first win away from home last season, with a stunner from Paul Mullin sealing 2-0 victory.
We are awaiting details of the rest of Rovers’ pre-season schedule, which will help Micky Mellon’s side build up to their first season back in League One.
