It’s that time of the year again when transfer rumours are rife and Twitter is full of reported targets for clubs up and down the country.
Some of them, in fact most of them, you can take with a pinch of salt, but one appeared online earlier today which may have a inkling of truth around it.
The 31-year-old centre forward has been on the club’s radar for some time, with interest initially shown in him during the National League days when Bowman was banging them in for Gateshead.
Since then, he has been at Motherwell and Exeter City before rocking up at The Shrews back in 2021.
Micky Mellon said in his post-match interview, after Sunday’s 1-0 defeat at Crewe, that players would need to be shipped out before any come in, so we’ll keep an eye on the situation to see if there’s any further movement on this front.
The attacking options need to do better than they currently are. A pretty dismal return of 25 goals from 24 matches in League Two shows the main area of weakness in Rovers’ game, and this needs to improve if the club are to push for play-offs come May.
Bowman could be a useful addition, although he is currently out-of-favour with Shrewsbury and, unlike much of this season’s signings, he is towards the end of his career at the age of 31.
Elsewhere, a rumour is going around involving a current Tranmere player potentially leaving the club this month.
Football League World are reporting that Josh Hawkes is a transfer target for Barnsley, Plymouth Argyle and Salford City.
Hawkes, 23, only arrived at Prenton Park permanently last January after a successful loan period at the beginning of last term.
He has been rather inconsistent in his displays, although has undoubted quality when he’s on top of his game.
Would he be missed?
Well, he’s a creative player and can get you a goal, but he’s been rather hit and miss since completing that permanent move 12 months ago.
If it were possible to bring in a good replacement by using any funds generated by a possible move, then Hawkes is one of the saleable assets available to the club at the present time.
We’ll watch this space regarding both players’ futures as well as any other possible comings and goings at Prenton Park this transfer window.
