Tranmere striker Andy Mangan is a target for Vanarama National League North side Southport, roversrearguard.com understands.
A source close to Southport told us that Mangan was a key target for the club in the summer following their relegation from the National League and investment from local businessman Phil Hodgkinson.
While we don’t know why that initial interest did not progress, it’s now possible that the Sandgrounders are back in for the Rovers forward.
Mangan has found first team opportunities limited since he returned to Prenton Park from League One side Shrewsbury Town last season. Despite coming back looking fitter this season than he was last, Mangan has still managed only a handful of appearances for Micky Mellon’s team, scoring one goal.
Tranmere are expected to sign as many as four players over the next 7-10 days and it’s likely that departures will be necessary as a result.
Mangan, arguably fifth in the pecking order behind Andy Cook, James Norwood, James Alabi and George Waring, may be one of those out of the door.
