The deadline for clubs to bring players in on loan passes at the close of play on Friday, but will Tranmere still look to strengthen?
There has been speculation that Micky Mellon is still keen to add a forward and midfielder to his squad ahead of tomorrow’s deadline. However, unless they are free agents, the only option would be to bring them in on loan. This presents another issue for the Rovers boss.
Clubs are only allowed to include five loanees in any single matchday squad.
Currently, Tranmere have the following players on loan:
- Shamal George, Liverpool
- Luke McCullough, Doncaster
- Jonny Smith, Bristol City
- Dylan Mottley-Henry
- Franklyn Akammadu, US Alessandria
- Harvey Gilmour, Sheffield United
If Tranmere do move for more players, Micky will have an interesting job on his hands juggling them in and out of his matchday squad.
Speculation online has linked the club with Sunderland midfielder Elliot Embleton. The promising attacking player is also an England under-18 international, and while he was close to joining before the season kicked-off, he has been in and around the first team squad at the Stadium of Light since the season commenced.
Long-term transfer target Danny Rowe looks like he will stay with AFC Fylde until January at least. Rovers had a small bid for the player rejected in June, while Cheltenham have reportedly had bids up to £200k rejected for him.
You’d think that to have any chance of securing him tomorrow, a club would have to agree a fee for a move in January so that he could join on loan now. We wouldn’t expect him to be Tranmere-bound.
Outgoings?
You would not expect to see any first teamers leave at this point, although some fringe or young players may be allowed to leave for first team football.
