In the fifth episode of A Trip To The Moon podcast, Rich and Matt catch-up with one of the heroes of Tranmere’s famous cup runs, former Oldham and Sheffield United man Nicky Henry.
Henry was not someone who was interviewed too often during his playing days at Prenton Park, and since leaving, he has continued to shy away from media attention for the most part, so hearing an in-depth interview with the former midfielder is a real treat.
The tough-tackling Henry joined Tranmere from Sheffield United where he had struggled with injury. Aged 30 when he joined, Henry became a crucial part of the team that got to the League Cup Final in 2000, and upset many Premier League teams over a two-year spell of giant-killings.
Henry talks about scoring big goals against West Ham and Bolton in cup games, and recalls his time playing under John Aldridge and latterly Dave Watson.
There is also mention of his current role as a scout for Premier League side Brighton. To listen to the interview, click ‘play’ below or check out the podcast on the usual platforms as listed below.
