The early odds for League Two have been announced with MK Dons, Northampton Town and Lincoln City among the favourites to win the league with Tranmere some way behind.
The EFL title sponsors Sky Bet are the first betting firm to announce their odds for League Two next season, and it’s fair to say Tranmere are currently outsiders to mount a promotion challenge.
In terms of winning promotion (automatic or play-offs), 15 teams are currently ahead of Tranmere in the odds. MK Dons lead the way as 7/4 favourites, followed by Northampton Town and Mansfield Town at 2/1.
Lincoln City are at 9/4, while north west neighbours Bury and Oldham feature at 11/4. Tranmere are currently priced at 6/1 with Newport and Port Vale.
Title odds are in a similar order, with MK Dons at 7/1. Tranmere are all the way out at 40/1, with only Crawley, Morecambe and Yeovil longer odds at 66/1.
As you may suspect, this translates in to Rovers being among the favourites to be relegated straight back to the National League again. Morecambe, who narrowly avoided going down last season, are 9/4 favourites to go next season, while Yeovil 7/2 and Crawley 4/1 are next. Then comes both Tranmere and Macclesfield at 11/2.
These odds will likely fluctuate as the summer progresses and clubs bring new players in. You’d expect Tranmere to bring in at least another two or three players ahead of their return to the EFL. There is also the small matter of clubs changing managers, with the likes of Carlisle certain to bring in a new face following Keith Curle’s departure.
