Tranmere have kicked-off an important month of recruitment with the signing of Glasgow Rangers winger Josh McPake on loan until the end of the season.
McPake, 20, joins Rovers after Micky Mellon warded off interest from the likes of Bradford City, Carlisle United and Salford to get the deal over the line. He will add much needed pace and skill to the squad in wide areas, something we have struggled to get too much of this season.
The exciting youngster has just finished a loan spell in League One with Morecambe, but it was his time on loan at Harrogate last season which really put him on Tranmere’s radar. He played 23 times for the Yorkshire outfit and impressed when coming up against Rovers.
McPake has been capped by Scotland at U17, U18 and U19.
Speaking of the move, McPake told the official Tranmere club website:
“I’m absolutely delighted to join the club. I’ve met everyone and got to know everyone so far so I’m really excited.
“It’s a massive club and the fan base was a major factor in my decision as well as the promotion push that we’re on. The Club is going in the right direction so it was an easy choice.
“I’m a quick, tricky and direct winger and I just want to create, assist and score goals. I had a few choices but the promotion push is what I want for my career so I don’t think there’s a better place to come.”
All being well, the winger will go straight into the squad for Saturday’s game against Scunthorpe United at Prenton Park.
