Tranmere sign Coventry City striker ahead of Liverpool friendly

By

Tranmere have added another new face to their squad after signing Coventry City striker Jordan Ponticelli on a six-month loan.

The 20-year-old striker will go straight in to the squad for Thursday night’s friendly against Liverpool at Prenton Park and will benefit from spending the majority of the pre-season with Rovers.

He has scored three senior goals for the Sky Blues already and spent a brief spell out on loan at Macclesfield Town last season. Quite a physical forward, he will join Ishmael Miller, Stefan Payne and Paul Mullin as the club’s main striking options going in to the new season.

Speaking about Ponticelli’s arrival, Tranmere boss Micky Mellon said: “He’s a young, hungry striker with plenty of ambition in the game and he is the type of player who we want,”

We understand Mellon is still keen on bringing in at least one, possibly two, more loan players ahead of the new campaign. At least one of those may be on the pitch at Prenton Park tomorrow night…not necessarily wearing white. There may also be another striker who appears for Rovers on trial in one of the pre-season games.

The Rovers boss is also keen to add another wide man to his squad in the coming weeks.
