Full-back Lee Vaughan was the hero as Tranmere beat Wrexham 1-0 at the Racecourse Ground today to keep up the pressure on leaders Lincoln City.
Despite the close scoreline, Tranmere dominated the game from start to finish and should have made it much more comfortable.
Vaughan hit a stunning half-volley midway through the first half that went in via a defender to hand Tranmere all three points in a game played out in heavy rain.
Despite being utterly dominant, there was the standard late scares that tend to happen with Rovers, but Mellon’s team deservedly hung on for the three points.
As BT Sports conducted interviews 15-20 minutes after the final whistle, Rovers fans were still in the stadium singing “We’re on our way”.
Let’s hope so.
