Walsall striker Ferrier sails in to Tranmere

Striker Morgan Ferrier has joined Tranmere Rovers from League Two club Walsall for an undisclosed fee.

The 24-year-old forward becomes Micky Mellon’s latest addition to his squad as Rovers get ready for their first fixture in League One when they host Rochdale on Saturday.

Born in London, Ferrier has operated for the large part of his career in non-league football with the likes of Bishop’s Stortford, Dagenham & Redbridge and Boreham Wood.

Ferrier was heavily linked with a move to Prenton Park last summer when leaving The Wood, but he instead chose to join Walsall, but he leaves The Saddlers after relegation last season.

The striker made 33 appearances in League One last term, finding the net on five occasions.

Micky Mellon told the official club website: “I’m really happy to bring a player with his qualities into the group.

“He’s still young at 24 and if he keeps improving we’ll have a top player. We’re excited to be working with Morgan.”

No details concerning the length of his contract have been revealed. Ferrier will wear the number 10 shirt and is in line to make his debut at Prenton Park in the season opener against Rochdale this weekend.
