Forest Green boss admits players will have to ‘deal with’ Prenton Park atmosphere

Tranmere will face old foe Forest Green in the League Two play-offs and Micky Mellon’s opposite number has already spoken about the tie.

Rovers and Forest Green have locked horns in several big games in recent years, with FGR coming out on top in the last four meetings, including the 2017 National League play-off final.

Most recent was a 1-0 victory for the ‘Green Devils’ at Prenton Park on Good Friday, a day on which the home crowd was at its hostile best. However, Mark Cooper’s side managed the situation excellently and overcame a few flashpoints with the home fans to triumph on the day.

Cooper is expecting the same on Friday night and has warned his players that they must be ready for it.

Speaking following his team’s goalless draw with Exeter City on the final day of the season, he said: “There’s a lot of excitement. There’s a lot of apprehension and trepidation because we’re going to play a really good team.

“We need to be spot on and similar to how we were a few weeks ago against them and need to make sure we have prepared meticulously. It’s going to be a tough game, but it’s going to be a fantastic atmosphere and we’ll have to deal with that.

“We respect them an awful lot. We think they are a really good club. I think they have very good players.

“I think they’ve got a really good manager and we always have a really good game against them. We need to make sure Friday night will be no different.”

We will be building up to the game all week.
