The regular National League season came to a close today, and Rovers learned they will host either Ebbsfleet or Aldershot in the play-off semi-final.
Tranmere finished with a 2-1 defeat at home to Hartlepool, but we had second spot long-since sewn up.
Therefore, attention was elsewhere as we waited to find out who we’d face in the play-offs and who else would squeeze in to the top seven.
Aldershot missed the chance to finish third as they lost away to Sutton, the result securing third position for the hosts. It left the Shots fifth, while Ebbsfleet drew 1-1 at relegated Torquay, meaning they must travel to Hampshire for the first play-off match in midweek.
Boreham Wood took fourth spot after comfortably seeing off Guiseley 3-1, a result that sets-up a home play-off game against AFC Fylde – Dave Challinor’s men finished with a goalless draw at Wrexham. Wrexham’s self-destruction from title chasers to mid-table also rans is complete.
Dover miss out on goal difference to Fylde; that was always going to be a danger whoever finished level on points with the team from Lancashire.
