Zoumana Bakayogo has returned to Prenton Park on a one-year contract after a successful trial period with Rovers.
The left-back has played three of Tranmere’s pre-season friendlies this summer, against Liverpool, Wigan Athletic and Warrington Town, and after a few injury concerns over the last few years, ‘Zoom’ looks sharp and has earned himself a deal with the club he left back in 2013.
The 31-year-old was originally signed by John Barnes back in 2009, arguably the best thing he did while in charge of the Prenton Park outfit, and he played for four seasons, making a total of 146 appearances and scoring six goals.
He was a popular character among the Super White Army in his first spell, with his great pace an asset down the left hand side, something which, although he is now 31, supporters will hope to see more of during his new stint at the club.
Since leaving Prenton Park in 2013, Bakayogo spent an injury-blighted two-and-a-half year spell with Leicester City, which reduced his game time to just two appearances.
He had a brief spell on loan with Yeovil Town from The Foxes and joined Crewe Alexandra in January 2016, going on to play more than 100 times for The Railwaymen before his release at the end of last season.
If he can reproduce the kind of form he showed during his first spell at the club, Bakayogo will undoubtedly be an important player for Micky Mellon’s side, giving Liam Ridehalgh strong competition in the left-back role.
Welcome back, Zoumana!
